In 2009, I was inspired by my two-year-old niece Lillian, who on Christmas day received a hobby-horse. My mom asked her: “What’s your horsey’s name?” And she replied, “carousel.” I thought changing the spelling to “karousel” was more childlike and symbolized doing things a little bit wrong, a little bit different—plus there is already a magazine called Carousel.
After spending countless hours seeking approval of various editors around the world, I decided to set myself free, and with Lily’s help, launched karousel as a self publishing platform.
